The Narrow Way 13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Becausenarrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Matthew 7:13-14(NKJV)
I Never Knew You 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:21-23(NKJV)
Are you the Christian Jesus says? ”I never knew you; depart from Me!”
How do you know? How do you know you believe?
Have that assurance! Take the test!
1. Are you sensitive to sin in your life? What is your relationship to sin? Do you hate what God hates and love what He loves?
1 John 1:5-2:1 Your relationship to sin reveals your relationship to God! Your secret sin, your thought life, what God sees!
2. Do you obey God’s Word?
Are you keeping His Commandments?
Do you exhibit gracious obedience?
Gracious obedience is the willingness to obey with the understanding that with Jesus Christ failure is without penalty. With the law there was perfection or penalty. With Christ, Grace. We obey not out of fear but out of love. Do you have a loving desire to obey Jesus? To keep His Commandments?
1 John 2:3-5
3. Do you reject the world? Do you abhor the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life? It’s not natural to hate them; the natural man loves darkness. You can only reject the world if you are a new creation; old things are passed away (natural man), behold all things have become new (new life in Christ).
1 John 2:15-17
4. Do you see the decreasing pattern of sin in your life? Jesus came and died to destroy the works of the devil. Sin and death have no hold on a Christian. Do you see the decreasing pattern of sin with an increasing pattern of obedience? The work of The Holy Spirit regenerates the Christian. Do you have a new life, a righteous life that destroys the pattern of sin? 1 John 3:5-10
5. Do you love other Christians?9 Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. 11 But whoever hates his brother is in darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
1 John 2:9-11(ESV)
The Apostle John wrote this Epistle… “That you may know that you have eternal life”
1 John 5:13 (ESV)
This test is for you to examine yourself. Judge yourself. 31 but if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged. 1 Corinthians 11:31 (ESV)
Being a Christian is against our nature. We need a new nature!
The final question then is… Do you have a new nature?
8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
John 15:8 (ESV)
